U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), a leading social conservative in the U.S. Senate, today made the following statement after President Obama announced a compromise to Obamacare's mandate on preventative services that has sparked a nationwide firestorm in recent weeks:

"Mr. President, when it comes to defending the Constitution and the First Amendment, there is no 'compromise' or 'accommodation.' Obama's announced compromise still fails to protect one of our nation's most sacred principles: religious freedom. This was not the answer our nation was looking for nor does it satisfy the concerns posed by our nation's religious-affiliated employers. As he has done before, this latest announcement is further evidence of President Obama's complete disregard for the liberties enshrined in our Constitution. I had hoped that the White House had received the message from the American people and would have completely backed away from this intrusive ruling. Instead, we got a politically calculated maneuver that falls well short. I will continue to fight this threat to our religious freedoms."

In response to this mandate, Inhofe recently cosponsored S. 2043, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 2012. This legislation would block the requirement that religious-affiliated employers offer contraceptive services.
