This clip is supposed to demonstrate , that a quality machine tool still performs well even after decades of use ( almost 40 years with me ) . In the true running test , the plunger is perpendicular to the point of the lathe centre . The smallest division of the dial is 1/1000th mm ( unfortunately , hardly visible in the video ) . "1" , "2", "3" , "4" etc represent steps of 1/100th mm (about half a thou for the Old School engineers ) .
Sorry about the poor definition . My point and shoot digital camera is no match to the quality of the lathe .
Even a brand new example of modern Far East (s)crap machinery is miles away from such precision .
