The new Steinways have arrived! A major feat of musical movements at UW-Whitewater over spring break as 31 new pianos arrived on March 21, and all were assembled and put in place in a single day. They include:
• A new Steinway D that will serve the music department as a "flagship" piano for decades to come. This instrument will be used for student and faculty piano recitals. • Five new Steinway O grands for faculty studios. • 25 new Boston pianos for student practice.
Faculty members couldn't wait to play them, and we're excited to see what musical masterpieces our music students will play next!
Almost all of the music department's old pianos were purchased when the Greenhill Center of the Arts was built in 1971, and they were at the end of their useful lives as effective instruments for practice and performance.
