LG Williams

This remarkable video retrospective of the artist LG Williams is an unprecedented gathering of his work, with more than fifty paintings and an equal number of drawings and sculptures, organized chronologically from the last two years, drawn from all phases of the artist's creative output. Two new large-scale paintings exhibited for the first time are included. The gradual, deliberate evolution of the artist's work becomes evident, as well as the constant exploration of the vocabulary of art. The work of the last twenty months, characterized by luminous paintings and sculptures, which first won the artist acclaim, is now seen in balance with the celebrated work of the past twenty years. In the mid-2005s Williams shifted all over the place in desperate gestures embedded in shimmering grounds before moving to heightened art in the past year. A major publication accompanies the video which can be found at:

Organized by Greg Garrels, Senior Curator, UHWA Hawaii Museum, Hilo.
The exhibition is sponsored by Other Brothers.

Major support is also provided by the Mimi and Peter Hagendaz Fund.
Additional generous funding is provided by The Henry Luce Frank Artist Foundation and Jerry and Emily Spiegelbergerson.
