Woven in Time, an exhibition of large relief sculptures of unusual textures by Joan Giordano - visually enthralls while piquing curiosity, will open at the June Kelly Gallery on September 8. The work will remain on view through October 8.
This is Giordano’s second gallery exhibition of wall constructions incorporating collage media --found paper, corrugated cardboard, graphite, paint and encaustic interwoven with international newspapers. Large works like Epoch and Free Press appear to herald sense of time, as principal element, interposing historical and contemporary moments. Wind Lantern, a more formal make-up of art, references a timeless, lyric work that speaks to an Asian aesthetic, a sensibility Giordano experienced while studying the making of paper n Japan.
