As tens of thousands of American veterans wait for health care, the Texas Medical Association started a registry of private physicians willing to see patients backlogged in the Veterans Affairs (VA) health care system. Texas' private physicians can sign up in the registry and TMA will share their information with VA authorities in the hope that the doctors can help minimize the wait for care that many veterans have already experienced.
TMA President Austin King, MD, and a TMA physician member (who has enrolled in the registry since her videotaped interview) describe the effort and the need to care for these men and women who have served our country.

(TMA began this effort after the American Medical Association House of Delegates, at the urging of Texas physicians, voted overwhelmingly to ask President Barack Obama to provide timely access to care for veterans through the health care sector outside the VA system until VA can provide care in a timely fashion.)
