This piece is about the minority experiencing implicit racism and how the media deepens that stereotype. The elevator scene is based on an article called "Black body; white gaze" written by Dr. George Yancy, a philosophy professor at the University of Duquesne. In this article, Dr.Yancy describes a hypothetical scenario where he enters the elevator and stands alone next to a White female. In this scenario, the White woman reveals her prejudice against him not by words, but with her demeanor and body language. Dr.Yancy describes the identity crisis he faces during that moment where he feels trapped in his own body, as if he has no control over it. He goes on to state that no matter what his response, the women will perceive him as a threat. Furthermore, our main character faces another dilemma. She crosses path with a Middle Eastern man and thinks she's being followed only to find out that he was only trying to give her keys to her.
