The XVIIth music festival, The Stars of White Nights, opens on the stage of the Mariinsky Theater to the music of Rodion Shchedrin with the premier of Aleksey Ratmanskys production of the ballet, The Little Humpbacked Horse. In the roles of Ivan the Fool and the Tsar-Maiden will perform Vladimir Shklyarov and Alina Somova. The soloists are still very young, though next to the Little Humpbacked Horse Vasily Tkachenko, who only this season has come to the theater, Alina and Vladimir might already be considered veterans. All the artists have been working with such undisguised passion during rehearsals that one can only guess at the intensity the actual production will have.
