Pan-blue violence strikes once again, but they missed their target and hit themselves. What a mess!

Truck driver Peng Sheng-lu (彭盛露), employee of self-styled "candidate for China's legislature" Mei Feng (梅峰), drove his truck into a group of people from the (correct me if the official English name is different) Taiwan Independence Party (台灣建國聯盟) in what appeared to be an attempt to instigate violence and blame it on the pan-greens. In fact, he was partially successful at this, since the FTV anchor echoes his claims near the beginning of the video that "people hit his truck as he drove by." However, the statement is false. They didn't hit his truck until his truck hit them, as you can see in this video:

What happened after the initial minor incident was that some pan-greens and many reporters surrounded the truck. ETTV cameraman Wang Jui-chang (王瑞璋) was directly in front of the driver, and the truck sped forward again, running him over completely. As police tried to get the driver out, he drove forward even further, despite the FTV cameraman's claim that people were repeatedly shouting, "There's someone under the truck!"

After the police extracted the driver, people on the scene used their bare hands to turn the truck on its left side. The injured cameraman's sweater was tangled around the drive shaft and was torn completely off, and his head was caught in the undercarriage of the truck. He suffered serious internal injuries, including brain edema and lacerations of the liver, and broke several bones.

The incident happened outside the recently renamed "Taiwan Democracy Memorial Hall" (formerly known as the "Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall" [蔣介石紀念堂]) amongst nearby protests directed at the removal of relics of the former Chiang Kai-shek (蔣介石) dictatorship. Naturally, there are quite a few violent people among those who continue to support his memory as a "great person."

Several other journalists were less-seriously injured in the incident, including a photographer for the pro-unification China Times who even stated that he felt the driver did it "on purpose." I wish all the injured a speedy recovery, but I simultaneously hope the pan-blues learn something from this "friendly fire" incident instead of blaming it on the pan-greens.

Meet the parents
The driver's parents were visited at home by FTV. The mother says, "What are you taking pictures for? It's not like he *killed* anybody!" Not yet, he didn't, but the report tells us that he has previously been involved in other violent crimes.

... or here on It's Not Democracy, It's A Conspiracy!:

Watch Taipei mayor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) blame the horrible incident on what most people consider to be the advancement of democracy and the rejection of the old dictatorship in which his father played a part (at the 1'24" mark):
