Drebbel machine running from Monday, 4 May 2015, 16h12, until Thursday 7 May 2015, 7h56. Time lapse video taken with GoPro 3+ Silver with 30 second intervals. The red dot on the clock indicates PM. The dials show, from left to right, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, and air temperature. Diameter of the wheel is 57 cm. The transparant vinyl tube attached to the wheel, containing water, has a cross section of 2.8 cm2. The tube is connected at the top through flexible latex tubing to a gas cylinder of 10 l (blue bottle on top shelve). The other side of the vinyl tube (right) is open to the atmosphere. Flashes indicate opening of experimental space to daylight. At about 2/3 into the video, a fluorescent tube breaks down and only incandescent lighting remains.
The wheel turns counterclockwise when the air volume in the gas cylinder is reduced as temperature falls and/or atmospheric pressure increases.
