This song displays the exuberance and flavour of Berlin in the Weimar Republic of the early 1930s. It tells of a gentleman in the 'Maskottschen Bar' late at night, trying to win the affections of a lady and slowly becoming tipsy in the process.
Henry de Winter is a master of this genre of singing. His flair and sartorial elegance guarantee a polished performance.
The orchestra leader, Juraj Bartos, transcribed the arrangement by listening to the original recordings. A feat of outstanding musical skill.
Recorded at the Keppel Castle Jazz Festival in The Netherlands, by Chris Latham on Sunday 26 June 2011.
