Kiva.org facilitates loans to sugarcane workers in Nicaragua who suffer from serious and sometimes life-threatening diseases, caused by being exposed to intense heat and insecticides while cutting sugarcane. Because their health condition no longer allows them to do hard agricultural labor, they often start their own small businesses in order to generate a source of income. Through our partners in Nicaragua, Kiva provides the working capital for these people to remain self-sufficient.
Lend to an ex-sugarcane worker or a family member they left behind. Go to Kiva.org, select Nicaragua and Vulnerable Groups.
