'Sunrise Dance', Movement III of Once We Moved Like the Wind, was written by Brad Richter and commissioned by the Tucson Guitar Society in 2014. This work for guitar orchestra and two solo guitars is an homage to Apache Medicine Man Geronimo. The piece was inspired by a visit to the San Carlos Apache Reservation by the two soloists featured in this video - Carlos Bonell and Brad Richter. The guitar orchestra is conducted by Matt Denman, professor of guitar at Oklahoma City University, and features students and teachers from the Lead Guitar program at Enid High School, US Grant High School, Classen School of Advanced Studies, NW Classen High School and Oklahoma City University. The Sunrise Dance is a four-day coming of age celebration and series of rituals for Apache women.
