ST. PAUL, MN (August 21, 2010) -- The floodgates opened in the sixth inning as the St. Paul Saints gave up six runs and couldn't come back in a 10-8 loss to the Lincoln Saltdogs on Saturday night at Midway Stadium in front of 5,277.

With the Saints leading 5-4 in the sixth Albenis Machado singled with one out. Pat Trettel followed with a double putting runners at second and third. Gavin Dickey tied the game with a single to left and chased starter Jake Schmidt. With two outs Juan Richardson came through with an RBI single to left giving the Saltdogs a 6-5 lead. The big play of the night followed when Argelis Nunez hit a grounder to third, but Hector Bernal's throw to second pulled Brandon Carter off the bag allowing Dickey to score and extending the inning. Juan Camacho followed with a two-run double to make it 9-5 and an RBI single by Phil Hawke gave the Saldogs a 10-5 lead.

The Saints fought back in the bottom of the sixth when Steve Mays led off with an infield single to short. With one out Josh Alley ripped a single off of pitcher Brendon Smith's foot. A walk to Ole Sheldon loaded the bases and an RBI ground out by Jason Cooper made it 10-6. The Saltdogs gift wrapped a couple of runs to the Saints when Brent Krause hit a grounder to short that Albenis Machado threw away allowing two runs to score. The Saints, however, would wind up with just one hit the rest of the way.

The two teams traded runs early and with the game tied at one in the third Rafael Alvarez led off with a single for the Saltdogs. With one out Nunez singled him to second. Camacho's single drove in a run to make it 2-1 and two batters later a fielder's choice by Brandon Jones scored Nunez to make it 3-1.

The Saints tied it in the bottom of the inning when Sheldon reached on a two base error as right fielder Alvarez dropped a fly ball. Two batters later Krause doubled Sheldon home and Sheldon would score on a Gerard Haran double tying the game at three.

In the top of the fourth the Saltdogs took a 4-3 lead when Trettel led off with a double and scored on Dickey's single.

The Saints took the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Sheldon led off with a single and Cooper walked. Krause singled to left and the ball was misplayed by Alvarez allowing Sheldon to score tying the game at four. A walk to Josh Burrus loaded the bases and Haran's double play scored Cooper to give the Saints their last lead of the night at 5-4.

The same two teams meet in the finale of the three game series at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday at Midway Stadium. The Saints send RHP Zach Peterson (6-6, 3.53) to the mound against Saltdogs RHP Jim Paduch (8-6, 4.58). It is 1990: It's Basically the 80's.
