No kidding, I have no idea what the heck this thing is, but this is the 2nd one that I have come in contact with since moving into my new house and coincidentally enough the darn thing did the same exact thing the 1st one I had a run in with did...came crawling up under my toes while I sat barefoot here in my office working. Its 2:35am and I am so creeped out now and got the Ibbie-geebies!

I think its a centipede, its got like 20 legs on each side and the damn thing when I smashed it with one of the shoes I should have been wearing did not die! I think its time to call in the exterminators!

WOW That creeps me out a bit. I can stomach almost anything and these critters to me are live beings and I don't feel its good karma to kill them but to catch and release them outside I would if I could but seriously I am no science bug collector or anything. I sure wish I could send you some of the things I have seen out here. You truly seem to know what your talking about. Thats cool!
Jordan if you study bugs and such and need some for your research just let me know and I will see what I can do to get you specimens! Right now its breeding season for Spiders and there are so many of them though they are hard to catch because I don't wish to get bit and they seem to jump! Also so sorry I have taken this long to reply to your comment. I have been very busy and though I have tried I just get side tracked every time!

When I realized what it was I was like "YES!!!" because I've been looking for one for so long I even spent most of last summer look for one and couldn't find one but now here at the end of this summer a year later one just happens upon my bed!!! God has blessed me with many of creature finds in the past but I finely have a Hemiscolapendra marginata one of the largest centipedes in NC tied with Scolapendra viridis, but we don't get Scolopendra in Wake county, they both get 5-6 inches!

I just found a small one on my bed and when I caught it I immediately recognized it from my research and from pictures from the past.
Oh yeah I know a few people would or at least screamed pretty loudly! LOL
LMBO your so CRAY I swear your right though...darn thing died..guess it baked in that container under the lamp I had it under..must be that a 60 Watt light bulb was just to much for it...its 86'd now! Just don't know when the next one would come walking out from somewhere and tickle my foot, this is the 2nd one now! We also have Black Widows and Brown Recluses here and you don't want to get bit by either of them! ~hugs~
AAAAaaaAAAAAaaaaaAAAAAAahhh OMG girl!! You are so brave to be holding that container.. Bring it to an environment protection office, or poison control center. :S GoooOOOoooood! bug's creep me out!! It looks like a Centipede to me too :S I have the willies, soOOOoo bad! good luck with that girl!! maybe ware a Hazmar suit in the meantime! :) just kidding. We have Black Widow, and Brown Recluse Spiders here, eeeeeek Rae
OMG! I would have freaked the hell out!!!!

I am fairly certain it is a millipede. They probably come from somewhere wet, a drain or something akin. I get them in the basement from the drains and sometimes in the bathroom and they freak me out every time. Google millipede.
