Sung by Monali Thakur, this song is a reinterpretation of the classic from Umrao Jaan. Karsh chose to include this because of his memories from childhood where he would sit and watch old Hindi films with his mother on holidays. The reworking here has Monali singing English parts as well.

Context:
A courtesan explaining to a Nawab (nobleman) what it would take to win her love and to
sustain it given the social stigma of such a relationship.

The Meaning:

"If you hear me just once and understand my feelings, I will happily give my entire life to
you... and not just my heart! Because, if you hear it beating, you will know the passion and
love it holds, and you would keep coming back to the road that leads to me.

"So my love...before you take your first steps into this relationship, be warned and prepare
yourself for the consequences of falling in love with someone like me (a courtesan)!!"

With determination, even heaven can be brought down to earth (a blissful life can be lead
overcoming the social barriers). As nothing is impossible if one decides. I will go all the way to
bridge the gap between you and me. All you need to do is to just love me for who I am.

People do not bother before commenting at all. Where did you get this information that she is pop singer only? She is a trained classical singer. She was trained in Hindustani classical music under Pandit Jagdish Prasad and Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty.[3]

Monali Thakur is undoubtedly one of the best singers I've seen in recent years. She touches such high notes with great precision and The "Murkiyas " are fantastic especially in the line"is anjuman main aapko" are just outstanding and also the western singing is commendable. Wow Monali.. Those who are giving negative comments must be shreya ghoshal fans who doesn't have a hold on western music... I wish she was versatile ! I wish !!! great going Monali... Fantastic :)

She shouldn't have sung this! I am her fan, but she is just awful here... That very much explains why lata and asha are queens!

it is coz of such terrible renditions tht pak coke studio is said to be better thn ours .. Monali is such a good singer but she shud have refused after listening ..
Yash
The rendition isn't terrible. I agree Pak coke studio might be better, but treat this as a song u idiot and then identify it. Speak good, if not - DONT.
