In October 2012, the National Down Syndrome Society and GiGi's Playhouse NYC presented with a discussion with Dr. Michelle Ballan titled Sexuality and Children and Adolescents with Down Syndrome: Exploring Development Throughout Young Adulthood.

Dr. Ballan is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Columbia University and a Faculty Associate for the Columbia University Center for Bioethics. Her research, teaching and service is dedicated to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Dr.Ballan focuses on sexual health prevention and treatment interventions for children and adolescents. She is the recipient of several awards including the Early Career Award from the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
