Congresswomen Jackie Speier and Barbara Lee cosponsored a meeting for veterans at the War Memorial Building in San Francisco on Monday, May 21, 2012 to address the backlog of cases at the Oakland VA.
Veterans are waiting an average of 320 days to receive a decision from the VA's Oakland office which handles claims from Kern County to the Oregon border. Some 34,000 claims remain unsettled at the office which has the VA's second highest case delay record in the nation.
The Oakland VA director Douglas Bragg and the VA's Western Regional director Willie Clark attended the meeting. VA claims specialists were on-site to conduct private interviews with veterans to discuss backlogged claims.
