Further back in time king Canute came over from Denmark with his forces and toke control of nearly all of England with the exception of London, but after several battles with Edmund Ironside he became king of all England in year 1014. As he was king of Norway too, he became known as Canute the Great (in danish: Knud den Store). King Canute died at the age of 40, and the empire he had built soon thereafter disintegrated.
