On June 29, the St. Louis chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-St. Louis) will join the National Religious Campaign Against Torture (NRCAT) at a demonstration against torture from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Kiener Plaza.

June is National Torture Awareness Month and various civil rights and advocacy organizations in St. Louis have been educating the community about torture-related issues.
CAIR-St. Louis Executive Director Faizan Syed said: "The sad reality is that people have become complacent on the issue of torture. What was unacceptable a few years ago is unfortunately acceptable today."
During the demonstration, volunteers will be dressed in prison jumpsuits to show how torture violates human dignity.
CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
