Music Composer - Karunesh, Germany Album - Zen Breakfast. Year - 2001
Karunesh is a new age / ambient musician born in Cologne, Germany in 1956. His music has strong "Asian and Indian" influences prevalent throughout, with liberal use of Indian instruments (like the sitar for example).
Karunesh released his first album 'Sounds of the Heart' in 1984, which quickly became a classic in the New Age genre. More albums followed and Karunesh became established as one of the best known artists in that genre. He has lived in Maui, Hawaii since 1992 and his musical expression has expanded more and more into World Beat/World Fusion.
Although he had been drawn to music as a child and played in bands as a teenager, he chose to study graphic design as a career. However, after attaining his degree, Karunesh was involved in a serious motorcycle accident. His brush with death prompted him to rethink his life and embark on a
spiritual journey of sorts, and in 1979 he travelled to India.
His accident also prompted him to choose music as a career
instead of graphic design.
"I want to go beyond the limits and barriers separating different cultures, mixing different music styles and let them flow and dance together. Music is the one language in the world that everybody understands, across all cultures, religions and beliefs - music for body, heart and soul. "
"I want to go beyond the limits and barriers separating. Rhythym is food for the body, melody nourishes the heart and atmospheres fill the soul - and my music touches the listener on all these three levels." - Karunesh
"Like shimmering silver light reflecting off moonlit minarets of the soul, the soaring passages of Zen Breakfast find each note carefully conceived and each instrument reaching for the heavens above. Delicate, crystal clear bells chime to signal anew waking moments on each composition rising form the abundantly dreamy themes that are carefully shaped to take form in patient manner through these extravagant excursions. Weaving exotic voices and cross-cultural elements through his sparkling tapestry, Karunesh finds that perfect balance point where classical, world and healing music join, carefully coaxing love's caress from every note. Zen Breakfast ... is sacred music from far off visionary places that touch the heart ever soclose to home. " - Lloyd Barde, Backroads Music
