Andreas starts by illustrating what some of the best YouTube marketers achieve. While some of these brands have millions of followers, they pale in comparison to user-generated content. In the beauty industry, brands together control less than 5% of all beauty videos. What can your brand do to increase your share of voice?
An effective content strategy is one of the best ways to increase a brand's share of voice. Rather than focusing on viral-style videos, it's important to provide useful information to your viewers. Successful videos are sometimes boring. Also, while brands tend to produce short videos, audiences find videos in the three-to-ten minute range to be the most useful and engaging. Frequently publishing new content is crucial as well. Andreas compares the average publishing schedule with those of top YouTubers and brands to show their relentless output.
Paid advertising is another piece of the puzzle. Advertising on YouTube frees advertisers from the constraints of broadcast. And while television could only provide vague demographics for targeting purposes, YouTube allows advertisers to target specific user attributes, making TrueView campaigns much more precise, effective, and measurable. When optimized correctly, advertising on YouTube can be drastically cheaper than even traditional display advertising.
