In the early 1980s, long before the Santa Lucia Highlands became an official appellation, Dan Lee was already sourcing fruit from vineyards in the area for his new Morgan label - recognizing the potential, the unique sense of place of this then undiscovered, mountainside district.
In 1996, Dan and Donna Lee invested in their vision, purchasing and planting a vineyard in the northern end of the newly named, still not well known S.L.H. AVA. Of all of the places they could have selected to establish a new "Premier Cru" estate, this site was to prove the most perfect.
Named the Double L (Double Luck, in honor of twin daughters), today this vineyard is one of the most famed winegrowing properties in California. A living laboratory, the organically certified Double L Vineyard boasts 20 different clones on 8 different rootstocks. It is the source of Morgan's two most highly awarded, flagship releases: the Double L Pinot Noir and Double L Chardonnay.
The Morgan label also offers limited, Single Vineyard Designate releases from three other stellar S.L.H. vineyards: Garys', Rosella's and Tondre Grapefield. And Dan Lee purchases grapes from other top local growers including Paraiso, KW Ranch, Leavens, Santa Lucia Highlands and McIntyre.
