Marvel Studios had one of the biggest movies of all time this summer with The Avengers and promises lots more hits from their superhero slate in the coming years. Unlike the DC Universe though, their entire collection of heroes are not under one roof, but many of their biggest characters have been licensed to other studios including Spider-Man, X-Men and the Fantastic Four. According to recent reports though, some of their biggest heroes...and villains could be coming home and possibly even making an appearance in the planned Avengers sequel.

One such character could be Daredevil, a lawyer blinded by a radioactive substance that enhances his other senses to superhuman levels. Fox, who currently owns the rights to the character had limited success with a 2003 big screen adaptation starring Ben Affleck that also spawned the spinoff Elektra, starring Jennifer Garner. The studio is currently planning a reboot of the franchise and previously had The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and 30 Days of Night director David Slade attached to direct, but dropped out earlier this year. The studio is reportedly in talks to have The A-Team and The Grey director Joe Carnahan take over, but one major hurdle is the fact that the rights to the character will revert back to Marvel if they are unable to begin production by October 10th.

Variety recently reported that Fox and Marvel were in talks to reach an agreement that would extend the rights further in exchange for Marvel being allowed to use Silver Surfer, who appeared in 2007's Fantastic Four sequel and also the villainous Galactus in their films, which could potentially include The Avengers 2.

Sounds like a win-win for both studios, but Deadline now claims those reports are false and Fox is more interested in keeping Galactus as a possible villain for their planned Fantastic Four reboot and are willing to let Daredevil go back to Marvel. One possible resolution could be Marvel and its parent company Disney working together on a Daredevil movie, which according to Deadline is what is currently being discussed.

Whichever story ends up being true, it sounds like Marvel will most likely get the rights back to at least one of their characters, but which would you prefer? Silver Surfer and the planet eating Galactus or Daredevil? Let us know in the comments and be sure to subscribe to ClevverMovies to stay in the know on the latest movie news.
