Trevor Carlson, Executive Director of Merce Cunningham Dance Company talks about the FINAL LONDON SEASON and MERCE CIRCUS, part of Dance Umbrella 2011.

The FINAL LONDON SEASON presents a wealth of inspiring choreography by Merce Cunningham which has influenced generations of choreographers and dancers. This will be the last opportunity the UK public has to engage with Cunningham's work danced by the company he trained. The season includes Programme 1: Pond Way / Second Hand / Antic Meet, Programme 2: Roaratorio, and Programme 3: RainForest / BIPED.

Merce Cunningham Dance Company also performs in east London for the first time. The Company takes up residence with East London Dance at Stratford Circus for an intensive weekend, providing an opportunity for fans and new audiences alike to interact directly with the multi-faceted work of one of the world's choreographic greats.

A unique presentation, MERCE CIRCUS includes performances of Squaregame (1976) combined with films and other events taking place all over the building. There is even an opportunity to try out and perform a short Cunningham piece, Field Dances (1963) -- wear comfortable street clothes (lycra bodysuits not required!).
