Pet ownership is at an all time high for Americans

Pet popularity... The pet industry is an enormous and rapidly-growing market. In the past 15 years, the industry has experienced unprecedented growth from $17 billion to over $50 billion -- that's more than Americans spend on movies, music and video games combined. Last year, American's spent $49 billion on pets.2 Financial experts now widely tout the pet industry as "apparently immune to recession."3 Indeed, the pet industry is the seventh largest retail industry in the U.S., exceeding the jewelry, candy, toy and hardware industries. Moreover, after consumer electronics, "pet care is the fastest growing category in retailing, expanding about 6% a year. Clearly, consumer demand in the pet industry is at an all-time high.

Why are pets so popular? Because they benefit all of us at every stage of life.

Pets benefit everyone....When animals and humans connect both are benefitted - it's that simple. The bond between animals and humans offers well documented benefits, both psychological and physiological.

We've known for quite some time now that humans who interact with animals experience benefits that include: decreased blood pressure, reduced anxiety and an enhanced feeling of well being. Animals also benefit from their relationship with humans. It's been found that companionship and social support helps pets and animals live longer, healthier lives in addition to the type of quality care they would otherwise not receive.
