For those of us living in the drought ridden Mid-West on farms, large and small alike, we are seeing the worst natural disaster to hit the U.S. in over 50 years. This drought could have far reaching consequences for 2 to 3 years to come. People like their natural disasters to be snazzy like earthquakes or hurricanes. A drought comes like a thief, quietly, slowly killing everything it touches. Yet in the U.S. droughts have caused more damage than any other kind of natural disaster.

One thing the U.S. has always had going for it was that it produced enough food for its people plus had plenty left to sell to the world. This year we may find this to not be the case. And if the drought continues, hard choices will have to be made by everyone. With all the speculation of what the year 2012 will bring, it looks like nature fooled all the fortune tellers and is giving us The Year of Reality.

May all be well through this trying time (and I expect you all to bone up on your rain dance). Bless all the brothers and sisters of the world.
