The edger rips wide boards into pieces of nominal width (like 3 1/2, 5 1/4, or 9 1/4 inches). It contains multiple circular blades and makes more than one cut at a time. The operator adjusts the blade spacing and aligns boards to maximize yield. The laser lines indicate where the blades will hit the stock.
