ILWU Local 8 members on the picket line at Marubeni-Columbia Grain in Portland Oregon on June 1, 2013. ILWU Local 13 LA longshoremen joined them on the picket line in solidarity with their fight. They were locked out on May 4, 2013 by Columbia Grain which is owned by Japanese based Marubeni after defending health and safety conditions on the job. Additionally ILWU Local 4 workers in Vancouver, WA have also been locked out and replaced by replacement workers. In both elevator terminals, the J.R. Gettier and Associates has organized the effort to break the union with security forces and scabs. This same firm has also been involved in other ILWU labor disputes and labor strikes around the country.
