Sir Magdi Yacoub, famed surgeon, philanthropist and professor of cardiothoracic surgery at Imperial College London, explained his lifelong search for excellence in a lecture delivered before hundreds gathered in Bassily Auditorium. "It is a search for excellence, of which I am still very much a part. I am still looking," he said. Yacoub offered a historical reflection on great historical thinkers' search for excellence, before speaking more about his own work and areas where excellence need be achieved. "Excellence," he said, "equates to several definitions by many philosophers of science. These philosophers sought truth. Unfortunately, excellence, like truth, is largely unattainable."
