A song I composed for the New York Labor Chorus. They performed it at their 20th anniversary concert at the Town Hall Theater in NYC on November 5, 2011.

I was very happy to be in attendance with Wendy, Kirsten and Becky. We shot this on a crummy little Flip recorder from way up in the balcony. I believe they did a professional video of the concert, but this is the raw stuff.

Stand Up for Workers
(Paul B. Svenson ©2011 Dad's Songbook Music)

Some ask "why do we still have unions?"
Some ask "what have they done for me?"
Some ask "aren't they the worker's burden?"
Their time's come and gone
But we're here to disagree

Well didn't we build - built the roads and bridges
And didn't we teach - yes we taught the children
And didn't we work mines, mills, factories and farms to build this land
We're the ones who will protect when crime and fires abound
We stand our ground

When unions are strong,
And workers are strong
The rising tide will lift our country
And we'll turn this world around

CHORUS:

So today we're going to -
Stand up for workers side by side - you know that we will
Stand up for workers, stand with pride
Stand strong for worker's rights
Keep this land
Movin' toward the sunlight
Stand up for workers, side by side

BRIDGE:

Bass: Standing together, you know we're standing side by side
We are standing together, you know we're standing side by side

Alto: Stand up for workers, stand with pride
Stand up for workers, stand with pride

Tenor: We built the country now we're working for the future
Keep the union strong
We built the country now we're working for the future
Oh, keep us strong

Soprano: Sing solidarity all of our days, standing strong together we will
Sing solidarity, all of our days

REPEAT CHORUS
