Professor Chen was nominated for the ALS ice bucket challenge by GAME Service Chair Jay Sircar on behalf of GAME Service volunteers to raise awareness and funding for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

He accepted the challenge and was joined by MechE faculty members Professor Gareth McKinley, Associate Professor Tonio Buonassisi, Associate Professor Maria Yang, and Assistant Professor Amos Winter. Professor Chen made a donation to the ALS Therapy Development Institute (http://www.als.net), which was founded by MechE alum Jamie Heywood to support his late brother Stephen Heywood – both sons of our own Professor John Heywood – as well as others with this disease.

Professor Chen nominated the chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, Professor Ken Goodson!
