After Quintessence: The Complete Kala Recordings 1973

Kala was the short-lived band formed by vocalist Phil 'Shiva' Jones and Dave 'Maha Dev' Codling in 1972 when they were fired from Quintessence by flautist Raja Ram. Kala pursued a more accessible early 70s rock sound with shorter, punchier songs and more conventional song structures than Quintessence - although legendary Quin producer John Barham was also involved, in string and brass arrangements..

Kala weren't successful for various reasons (see the CD booklet!) and remain a little-known footnote in the Quintessence story - but a fabulously enjoyable one nonetheless. This first-time CD version, released in 2010, features the sole Kala LP plus two live tracks produced by Keith Relf for a 1973 various-artists LP plus two further unreleased live tracks, plus two new mixes of album tracks featuring new vocals from Phil Jones. Masteriong is by the legendary Ron Geesin.
