After the fall of Antioch to the Crusaders, the great Turkish emir Kerbogha arrives to recapture the city, trapping the Christian army within the ancient city. Now the Crusaders must prepare for their greatest trial yet: a full on battle with one of the largest Seljuk armies yet assembled! In search of spiritual renewal, they look to a visionary priest called Peter Bartholomew, who promises that the holy lance used to pierce the side of Christ lies buried under the cathedral of Saint Peter.
