The Maidens are the women who accompany the princess in the Maranao dance epic (Darangen) where Singkil is one of the dances. The Maiden Dance, which is a part of Singkil, does not have the princess and the big cast of performers. In the story, there was a typhoon caused by the fairies. The fans that the maidens use represent the ferocious winds. This dance was performed at a Kulintang Recital at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School for the Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program of the New Mexico Arts, a Division of the Department of Cultural Affairs.
