Students in Associate Professor of Mathematics Steven Miller's winter study class spent weeks strategizing the best way to collaboratively build a a 3,152-piece, 8-pound, 50-inch LEGO Super Star Destroyer in 10 minutes or less. The first few days of class were devoted to the mathematics behind LEGO, with a special emphasis on efficiency and optimization. The culmination was a big build at the Paresky Center, with students in the class and volunteers split up into tables, each assigned a part of the Star Destroyer. The final time: 10 minutes, 21 seconds.
