This video shows steam-lxc a command line tool to run Steam in a LXC container. The advantage of using this tool is that steam will be completely separated from the rest of your system but still have direct video and sound access to your hardware.
Whatever the version or architecture of Ubuntu you're running, the container will always be Ubuntu 12.04 LTS in 32bit mode which is the current target platform for Steam.
