Hi, this is an Optical Pulse Meter: The circuit measures the heart rate by detecting the pulse with infrared light. Each time the heart pumps blood, it reflects more light, and those small changes can be detected after amplifying the photodiode's output and filtering it.

A MCU then prints the BPM on the screen and outputs a square wave that is connected to a speaker. My heart rate was in average 78 BPM.
