July 1, 2011 -- Hello. As the Member of Parliament for Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale, it's my pleasure to wish a Happy Canada Day to everyone living in these great communities.

From me to you, something a little different. Here are the top 10 reasons why I'm so proud to be a Canadian this Canada Day.

#10. Our Canada is a vast landscape of the most pristine natural beauty in the world.

#9. We're proud to be showcasing our great country to the Royal newly-weds, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, this Canada Day.

#8. Hockey is Canada's game -- we're home to the Olympic Champions!

#7. For generations, we have welcomed new Canadians who have contributed to our rich diversity and success.

#6. We're tough enough to brave Canadian winters.

#5. We're fun-loving enough to enjoy Canadian summers.

#4 Our people are smart. The Canadarm and the discovery of insulin are just two examples.

#3. World leaders and global CEOs depend on a Canadian innovation -- the Blackberry -- every hour of their days.

#2. Since the early 1990s, Canada has been named by the United Nations 8 times as the best country in the world in which to live. More than any other!

And I think that record is mostly due with my #1 reason: In two World Wars, the Korean War, peace-keeping missions and Afghanistan, Canada has made a significant contribution on the world stage, it belies our size and population. Our brave men and women have fought to assure our freedom, democracy and peace.

Of course, a list of ten really just scratches the surface on the many ways we're all proud to be Canadians.

So let me put out this challenge to you -- identify your own Top 10 reasons why you love this country...and share it with your family and friends this Canada Day.

Enjoy! Happy Canada Day!
