Josh Greenwood and 2 promising young blacksmith apprentices, Joseph and Gary Wilkinson, perform basic forging operations on a 233 lb German Church Windows style anvil. They then perform some sheet metal experiments (new territory for us) based on the theory that the cavities and other special shapes on this style anvil were used originally to forge a wide variety of useful items including armor.
This particular anvil with the 4 feet and carved inscription on the back and is probably mid 19th century, but still sound and usefuil. This style of goes back through the Baroque period to the middle ages, long before swage blocks.
