Recently I accepted an assignment from my sweet granddaughter Madeline's second grade teacher. Madeline is the younger daughter of my son Stephen. The project is a Flat Stanley project which I, of course, had never heard of. Flat Stanley is a children's book that has started a craze across the country where children make cut out pictures of themselves and send it to out of town friends and family. The lucky family member/friend (me) was asked to carry Flat Maddie around and take pictures of her at different places during her visits. Flat Maddie would tell her stories about what she saw and learned. The only problem was that Flat Maddie, a cut out, had an IQ of 0 and I had to do the homework. Modern education at work.
I must say that I enjoyed the assignment and wanted to share it with all of you. There are a couple of questionable scenes toward the end of the show which will probably get Maddie suspended from school for a few days but such is the price for asking me to do 2nd grade homework assignments. Besides the travel show, there were a few pages of facts that I was requested to answer about Florida. I did not know the answers to any of them.
So, here are a few samples:
Name six well known Floridians. I could only name two. Ted Bundy and Katherine Harris.
What is the State insect? Puhhh!
When did Florida join the Union? 1956?
What is Florida's favorite drink? From what I have seen on the beach, it use to be beer now it is water in plastic bottles.
