Dengue is a mosquito-borne infection transmitted through the bite of an infected female Aedes aegypti mosquito. It is also known as break bone fever, due to the extreme pain caused in bones and muscles. These mosquitoes breed in accumulated water and unhygienic conditions. Regular cleaning, emptying and covering of water storage containers is necessary. . The best way is to eliminate all the possible breeding grounds for the mosquitoes. There is no direct human to human transmission of the virus. Mosquitoes are capable of transmitting this virus by biting an already infected dengue patient. Dengue can also be transmitted via infected blood transfusion and organ donation.
