This year 2014 is the 100th anniversary of the 1914 beginning of the most brutal war in human history. But in the Christmas of 1914 the soldiers on both side stopped the war. They stopped fighting. the Spirit of Christmas which is LOVE stopped the war. Why did they start again? They believed they had a duty to obey the stupid psychopathic generals and governments of the day. Young Australian men volunteered to be canon fodder for these men. Anzac Day commemorates one of the most disastrously stupid events of the 1914-1918 war. Brave men on both sides gave up their lives for absolutely nothing.

In 1914 the war stopped for Christmas. the spirit of Christmas is LOVE. Love can end the madness of war.The madness of stupid men who think that killing and dying is the way to get what they want.
During the 1990 Gulf War I had a vision of all the weapons of war falling into a giant chalice and melting into PEACE.

Love can rid the world of the evil of guns. We must control who has guns, for the children of Sandy Hook and all other children who have died because gun lovers fail to understand that children must be protected from the madness of gun ownership as a right. It's not the wild west anymore.

Cup of Peace ; David Rivett 1991

Soldiers and sailors and men who fly in the air, Look at what you're doing
Do you think it's really fair? Women and children are dying from your guns
Why is it that you hurt these innocent ones?
Take your guns and melt them down,Turn them into something round,We can drink from
A cup of Peace

You who sit as rulers in lands right round this world,Can it be you're trying to
Destroy our beautiful world? Why are so many people living living lives in fear?
The price of your ideologies is much too dear
Take your guns and melt them down,Turn them into something round,We can drink from
A cup of Peace
People living everywhere in lands right round this earth,Trying to believe in love and knowing who you are,Running with the winds of change,Arms are open wide
Heaven's love is everywhere. No time now to hide.
Take your guns and melt them down,Turn them into something round,We can drink from
A cup of Peace

I wrote this song during the first Gulf War in 1991. I was appalled that War was seen as an option to a relatively small military expedition by Iraq. What about the civilians caught up in the madness? Collateral damage? What an obscene reference to human suffering.

The legacy of war is immense. That anyone can think that it is an option is an obscenity in itself. Millions of people suffer from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) now regarded by some as the precursor to many if not all mental illness.
