A midwife in Asheville faces criminal charges in the death of an unborn child.Tina Bailey appeared in Buncombe County District Court this morning.She faces three felony charges.Warrants say Bailey practiced midwifery without training, experience or authorization by the state medical board.We've also learned the board has previously ordered her to stop practicing midwifery.Detectives say those actions caused the death of Avery Whitlow last summer.Bailey is also charged with obtain property by false pretense and obstructing justice in this case.A person inside the courtroom described Bailey's demeanor this morning. Sommer Balken, just distraught. She was real down and distraught. Just upset to be in jail. She didn't really have no tears in her eyes..nothing like that.
