Three projects, implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Mongolia and the Philippines helped in the elimination of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) as obliged under the provisions of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent organic pollutants.

The projects, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), have substantially contributed to protecting the environment and human health in the countries, as well as in the deployment and use of non-combustion technology as a more viable and resource-efficient option in combating toxic pollutants world-wide.

All three projects enhanced the capacities of counterpart governments through improved PCB-related policy frameworks, as well as detailed PCB inventory activities, which included inventory trainings, preparation of PCB identification guidelines and the provision of quick test kits and laboratory analyses. They also helped significantly raise awareness and knowledge among different target groups.
