The exhibition Cezanne in Florence, promoted and sponsored by the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze and organized by the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, is one of the largest artistic events ever held in Florence or abroad, on many levels.
First of all, of course, because it's a unique occasion to admire numerous paintings by the Masters of modern painting, Masterpieces which are usually scattered among the most important international Museums: Madame Cézanne in the Red Armchair, House on the Marne, The Orchard, Bathers, Self-Portrait with Cap.
But also because it focuses on the avant-guarde spirit of Florence. Not only during the Renaissance, Florence's heyday, but also 100 years ago, when, in 1910, in Florence the first italian exhibition of Impressionism art, was held.
Through the Cézanne paintings that were owned by two eccentric and prescient collectors who made Florence their home - Egisto Paolo Fabbri and Charles Loeser - the exhibition also displays pictures and paintings that recount the passions and tribulations of their generation. When it comes down to it Cézanne is just the tip of the iceberg of this impressive and extensive collection
The works by Pissarro, Van Gogh, Sargent, La Farge, and many other artists that were strongly influenced by Cézanne, together with photos and historical reconstruction of the period, let us dive into a world of dramatic artistic evolution and expression.
