Dupuytren's contracture. How do we recognize it? Stages of the disease.
In an early developmental stage, slight changes in the palm will appear. At first, a nodule will be noticed. The nodule will be followed by a pit on the skin and a cord underneath the skin.
Being a progressive and irreversible disease, evolves towards a hand disability.
The affected finger it can't be used because it’s retracted in the palm and it can't be extended anymore.
When should we intervene with specialized treatment?
Theoretically we can intervene in any stage but I consider the first stage as being the one with the fastest recovery.
Please keep in mind that it's a continuously progressive disease. Dupuytren's disease won't pass by itself but will worsen.
