Residents of Berlin's Neukolln district will have access to a drive-through and walk-up coronavirus testing beginning Monday morning.
Footage filmed on Friday shows medical staff members collecting smear samples from the first patients in what they call test mode, as the facility was opened for the press.
"This is a very important point as we want to test people on a mass scale, especially in light of the imminent opening of schools, playgrounds, kindergartens, as well as big shopping malls," said Falko Liecke, health city counsellor of Neukolln.
The centre will allow people to get tested for the disease without leaving their cars, thereby reducing the risk of infections in packed waiting rooms or reception areas at medical facilities.
Patients without a car could also be tested at the facility through a special protective plastic shield. Video ID: 20200424-034 Video on Demand: https://ruptly.tv/videos/20200424-034 Contact: cd@ruptly.tv Twitter: http://twitter.com/Ruptly Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/Ruptly
