VOLTTRON™ is a distributed control and sensing software platform developed at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in 2012. As reflected in this video, the technology initially was created for the power grid. However, VOLTTRON™’s use has expanded to building operations and efficiency, and it offers significant potential in fields such as distributed energy resources, connected homes, data management and more. VOLTTRON™ is open source, flexible and secure. See http://bgintegration.pnnl.gov/volttro....
VOLTTRON™’s initial development was supported by PNNL’s Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) program. PNNL is operated by Battelle for the U.S. Department of Energy under Contract DE-AC05-76RL01830. The authors would like to acknowledge the Building Technologies Office of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for supporting this research, development and demonstration effort. The authors would also like to thank Joe Hagerman, DOE Technology Development Managers and Senior Advisor, and George Hernandez from PNNL for the guidance they provided to the project.
