Elegie, Valse-Impromptu
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The only work of Reger (1873-1916) that seem to have made any lasting public impact (in the UK at least) is a Christmas piece: his 'Maria Wiegenlied' (Virgin's slumber song) - which comes from a set of 60 simple songs, the rest of which are largely ignored! These two short pieces come from his set of nine 'Varied Leaves', from 1899. The Valse-Impromptu perhaps shows Reger's musical kinship with Theodor Kirchner (a composer he was at as close to stylistically as Brahms, with whom he is usually linked)
